Dear Year 2 Geography Majors,

I write to provide you with the following provisional 2010 overseas field trip
arrangements. The Department will be offering two field trips for you to
choose from.

1. Field Trip to Yunnan, China

Date: 17 June (Thursday) to 29 June (Tuesday) 2010

Tentative destinations: northwest and west Yunnan, including Kunming (Dian Lake,
Stone Forest), Dali (Erhai & Cangshan), Lijiang (UNESCO site, Jade Dragon Snow
Mountain, Lashi Hai wetland), Shangri-La (Tiger Leaping Gorge, lama temple),
Tengchong (hot-springs, Lujiang, Gaoligongshan)

Tentative cost per student: HK$5,000 - $5,500 (including the air ticket,
accommodation cost, local transportation expenses for field visits). The cost
is subject to confirmation by the Hong Kong/local travel agency responsible for
the logistics arrangement.

2. UK Field trip

Date: 25 July (Sunday arrival) to 07 August (Saturday departure) 2010

Tentative destinations: Manchester, Liverpool, York, Snowdonia National Park,
etc., as per previous trips.

Tentative cost per student: HK$5,500 (to cover the student hostel costs, local
coach hiring for visits, entrance fee for visits and other miscellaneous field
expenses). This student contribution is subject to possible change after the
Department receives quotations from the various organizations/companies in the
UK.

Students are REQUIRED TO PAY FOR THEIR OWN AIR TICKETS TO THE UK AND FOR LOCAL
TRAVEL IN THE UK TO GET MANCHESTER UNIVERSITY (where the field trip will be
based).

Each of these 2 trips will have a maximum cap of 40 students to cater for the
coach's seating capacity and to ensure economies of scale.

You are required to collect a 'Field Trip Preference' form from the Departmental
General Office starting from this Tuesday, and to complete and return the form
to indicate your preference. We will expect all students to return the
completed form to us NO LATER THAN FRIDAY 05 FEBRUARY 2010 so that we can do a
head-count. In the event that there are more than 40 students wanting to go
on one particular field trip, our Department will do a random selection to
determine the final list of students to participate in the 2 trips.
